Celebrated poet, musician and author Gil Scott-Heron passed away last Friday at the age of 62 as a result of yet unknown causes. Scott-Heron’s death was reportedly confirmed by the legendary spoken word artist’s publisher Jamie Byng via Twitter with the tweet reading,“Just heard the very sad news that my dear friend and one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met, the great Gil Scott-Heron, died today.”

Scott-Heron’s music is pure gold and for almost everyone a big inspiration. R.I.P. to the great Gil Scott-Heron. Your words will live on forever.

Giant Step posted a really beautiful downloadable Gil Scott Heron mix by “Twit One” called “A Salute to Gil Scott Heron“.

Joe Thomas – Feelin’s From Within

Written by . Filed under Uncategorized. No comments.

Groovy album from American jazz/funk flautist and occasional saxophonist Joe Thomas , nicknamed “The Ebony Godfather”, born June 16, 1933.

The LP was released by Groove Merchant in 1976.

The winner number on the album is “Polarizer”, an excellent sleazy jazz funk instrumental boogie. Parts of the track has been sampled by well known rap artist Mos

The World of Harry Partch

Written by . Filed under News. No comments.

Harry Partch was an American composer and instrument creator. He was one of the first twentieth-century composers to work extensively and systematically with microtonal scales, writing much of his music for custom-made instruments that he built himself, tuned in 11-limit (43-tone) just intonation.

I came across his music almost 10 years ago in Bologna during a class of Modern and Contemporary music and i can say it was like a sudden revelation ; i’ve always been attracted to eccentric music and experimental composers but Partch is my favorite one. His music is such an inspiration to me!

You can watch Harry Partch’s BBC documentary to better understand what i am talking about.

The World Of Harry Partch was released by Columbia Masterworks in 1969 . It is out of print but i am sure you can find some CD repress somewhere.
